The Immortal Jellyfish Girl

sci-fi multimedia puppet theatre

NEW YORK TIMES CRITIC’S PICK!

A co-production with Nordland Visual Theatre
Written and directed by Gwendolyn Warnock & Kirjan Waage

Part coming-of-age story and part dystopian tragedy, THE IMMORTAL JELLYFISH GIRL soars through dimensions, unconfined by time, gravity, or biology. The year is 2555: large swaths of the earth’s surface are considered dead zones and global extinction has begun. Yet in this age of loneliness and destruction there is still hope…

Hilarious, ridiculous, and virtuosic, THE IMMORTAL JELLYFISH GIRL takes its audience on a wild journey through a post-apocalyptic future.

This work was my first commission with the company and it the projection design came about through a wonderful collaboration with OBLSK Creative.

The play’s futuristic world-building is a dizzying visual feast. (Theater Pizzazz)

And beneath the digitally morphing head, a series of rectangles reflect the plight of the puppet animals. We see the ravages of war, and the digital shapeshifting ease of the Doyenne, through projections. Erato Tzavara’s designs plumb the supernatural, as in a sci fi thriller. (THEATER LIFE)
