Videogame design Residency

STORYTELLING AND CULTURAL HERITAGE USING NEW MEDIA TOOLS

Hosted by Quicksand Design Studio, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the British Council, UNBOX Festival Fellowships brought together teams of Indian and UK creative researchers

in Delhi, India, for a month to:

Work with an assigned host organisation to identify a local challenge; develop an innovative solution involving the various disciplines of expertise within your team; design an interactive means of expressing this at the UnBox Festival in Delhi; and pitch for £25,000 worth of R&D funding.

UNPLAY was made with Quicksand, with the goal to is develop a ‘serious art game’ which is inspired by Indian heritage artefacts but does not resort to usual aspects of the exotic or the oriental.

The resulting product was Kinect Art game prototype presented as an installation in New Delhi, IN, as part of Unbox Festival and in Southbank Center, UK.

As part of the team,  I worked in Concept Development, Art Direction and 2d-3d graphics integration for the game.

After completion of the UNBOX fellowship, I stayed with head creative Avinash Kumar and his team to set up incubator stages of their art game development lab in Delhi, India (working with audiovisual, interactive media and Bharatanatyam dance language)
